On a day when sunlight was beautiful, though the snow still blanketed the ground outside, I met a newborn baby at a charming townhouse in New Jersey.
Meet lovely Lia. I photographed her at her first birthday, and now, over a year later, she’s blossomed into a little lady. It’s been a bit of an adjustment since her sibling arrived not long ago; she’s still grappling with accepting her new role as a big sister. She wasn’t keen on being photographed or even being near her sibling initially. Thanks to Mom’s finesse, we captured some beautiful moments amidst bursts of laughter.

Since she’s such a beauty, I made sure to capture some solo shots too 🙂

Finally, it’s time to focus on today’s star and begin the shoot. Everything looks effortlessly natural, but every detail—from the baby’s tiny toes to Dad’s arm placement, Mom’s gaze, her hand gestures, even her hair—is carefully composed.
Despite the challenging backlight, we managed to beautifully backlight the scene while preserving the natural ambiance.

The sight of the baby’s faint smile as he dreams is simply precious.

I also gently captured moments of his sleeping.

Below this window were plenty of toys from Leia’s older sibling, but upon exploring the house, I found this spot to be the most picturesque. So, we tidied up for the shoot and made it our main shooting area. It took some time to set up, but the end result was worth it! We may have rushed the cleaning process, but in the photos, everything looks serene.
It’s a special moment between Mom and baby.

Now it’s Dad’s turn. This phase can be tough on parents as babies tend to wake up frequently even during the wee hours of the morning. It’s a time for celebrating the arrival of new life and offering comfort during the challenging moments.
But, just like in the photos, we found peace once again! Don’t Mom and baby look serene? ^^;

I captured some atmospheric black and white shots too.

At first glance, it might seem like big sister adores her sibling, but in reality, she may have stormed off in annoyance shortly after! ^^;; If you focus on big sister’s expression, you might catch a hint of irritation… Nonetheless, capturing these moments was important, even if setting up the scene with the baby wasn’t ideal.

Despite being sleep-deprived and exhausted, Dad still looks great in the photos.

The peaceful scene captures none of the challenges of parenthood. Only their happiness is reflected in the photos.

I also took some candid shots.

As I’ve found, the younger they are, the easier it is to photograph them. It’s quite a challenge to capture moments before babies start crawling! Is that why American parents take so many photos around the 50-day mark?
Ian, who’s only two weeks old, is an absolute angel. He just stays still as we position him. Perfect!

I tried to capture the feeling of snow outside and the baby sleeping soundly to create a clear atmosphere. What do you think? 🙂

Ian is such a kind soul. He even opened his eyes as if to ask for more beautiful photos! The way the sunlight hits him is just lovely, isn’t it?

His fingers are surprisingly long for a newborn. Seems like he’s inherited Mom and Dad’s lean physique.

He finds the snow outside fascinating and enjoys gazing out with wide eyes.

These photos were taken after a good cry, when everyone felt better and in high spirits! Haha
